Auckland Thoroughbred Racing (ATR) has today announced the expansion of its board of directors with the appointment of two independent directors, Rachel Winder and Matt Blackwell.

Rachel Winder

Rachel has been involved in the property sector for over 20 years across a variety of roles including strategy, portfolio management, financial management and development. Her experience spans across industries from construction to telecommunications and financial services.

Rachel is a non-executive director for Argosy Property Ltd (NZX listed) – a position she has held since August 2019. She holds an MBA from the University of Otago and a Bachelor of Property from Auckland University. She is also a member of the New Zealand Institute of Directors.

Rachel has an interest in the racing industry and has wider-family members involved.


Matt Blackwell

Matt has over 25 years’ experience in financial markets, derivatives trading and sales management in cross-border marketing of complex products. He returned to New Zealand in mid-2014 following 13 years abroad – the last 10 years in Singapore where he was responsible for Institutional Sales and Distribution across the Asia region for Deutsche Bank.

Matt’s most recent role was CEO of OM Financial (OMF) who were acquired by the Jarden Group in April 2019. Matt has had experience working with the management team and board of Auckland Thoroughbred Racing with OMF/Jarden having sponsored for six seasons.

He has a strong involvement in the racing industry through ownership of racehorses and holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Banking from Massey University.


In commenting on the new appointments, ATR Chair Doug Alderslade says, “adding Matt and Rachel as directors adds further strength and experience to our board as we continue to work towards our vison of providing a sustainable future for thoroughbred racing in New Zealand.”
