Known for her impeccable taste and timeless elegance, Eleanor captivated the judges once again this year, being named one of four winners in the ForEVER Sophie Permanent Jewellery Fashion Qualifiers here at Ellerslie on 8 March before going on to be announced a Grand Finalist in The Ned Prix de Fashion later that afternoon.
Eleanor shares the inspiration behind her stunning ensemble and how New Zealand’s vibrant fashion scene continues to shape her racewear style.
Can you share any memorable or unexpected moments from the competition day that stood out to you?
Any time your number gets called, it’s an unexpected moment because you just never know – especially when the standard is so high.
What was the inspiration and creative process behind your ensemble? What elements or themes did you aim to showcase?
My outfit was actually intended for Oaks Day at the Melbourne Cup Carnival and has had two trips there, but because I made the finals in other outfits, it hadn’t been worn yet.
So preparation for me was very easy – everything was ready to go!
How do you ensure your personal style shines through while also meeting the judging criteria for a competition like this?
My personal style is usually simple and classic.
Although I appreciate contemporary looks, I like to stay true to my own style.
How has New Zealand’s unique fashion landscape influenced your style and approach to racewear? Are there local designers or milliners that inspire you?
We have a great relationship with our milliner, and we’re lucky she’s local.
It means we can visit, discuss ideas, and play with different materials.
What advice do you have for anyone wanting to compete in The Ned Prix de Fashion 2026?
Just give it a go! It’s fun and a great outlet if you love fashion.
What’s next for you after the competition?
I’m not sure when I’ll compete next, but I really enjoy going to the Melbourne Cup Carnival – and this year I’ll be able to compete again [after having won Australia’s national title in 2023]!
