With our history spanning over 160 years, we thought it high time to ask a few (not so old!) friends of Ellerslie to recall their favourite memories of racing here at ‘The Big E’.

The man himself. Noel Harris.

Today we chat to Noel Harris.

Says Noel on his favourite Ellerslie memory…

“I’ve always loved riding at Ellerslie and have enjoyed some great success on the track.

“It’s a great feeling having won three Auckland Cups and I was over the moon to win the New Zealand Derby; but my favourite memory has to be winning five for five on a premier day at Ellerslie on 1 June 2013.

“There was even one lucky punter who had followed me and put a $1 all-up bet for me to win all five races… it was a $36k payday for that punter.

“Those are the days memories are made of.

“Racing’s certainly been kind to me.”

On commenting on his five wins, the NZ Racing News Desk had the below to say:

“Harris’ roll started with Dark Bishop in the Swiss Deli Cornwall Handicap and then produced trademark displays aboard Perfect Start in the Active Electrical 3YO, Arnold in the Simply Squeezed 1400, Postmans Daughter in the Edwards Sound Chairman’s Open Handicap Trophy and on Our Essence in the Power @ Cambridge Stud Mile.”
